“Dave … jumped in with the heart of a cliff diver, delicately removing the paint and the thin layer of filler (all Lasers were fully sprayed with a thin layer of beige filler which was then sanded smooth before paint) exposing bare metal… As Dave excavated through the many paint layers down to bare metal, he pointed out interesting archeological details like tiny hammer marks in the sheet metal gussets from the meticulous shaping process and that one set of chainstays was made from fork tubing. He pulled out the bearing cartridges, repaired the small cracks in the head tube collar, reinforced the seat stay connection to the bottom bracket fairing, realigned the rear end, and reinstalled new bearing cartridges.
To build a replacement fork,he worked from an 8.5” x 11” black and white photocopy of the original bike, cutting the fork blades to length and estimating the rake….
I admire that Dave struggled to not re-engineer the fork/fairing with more a robust design. He builds bikes that last, not to hang on walls, but we settled on a design close to the original look but with a bit more residual strength so that it could be gently ridden.
He designed, manufactured, and customized bolts and ‘races’ necessary to get butterey-smooth action out of the fork. He then set about building and shaping the front fairing and custom bar clamp.
After more than 60 hours total, he handed over a stunning, raw replica fork and a restored frame that was as good as new and ready for paint.”

Since acquiring the Pygmy Bryde in June, I've been riding single track in Oregon National Forests, and it's never been so easy. It's like cheating, not kidding! I've been riding mountain bikes since 1984, and have ridden some high-end bikes, but never one that climbed and descended so well, and at the same time so light. Steep descents are all of a sudden easily controlled; I have to be going really fast to get it to wash out even a little. Because of the frame geometry and fat tires, steep accents are likewise easy: just stand up and horse the handlebars with no rear wheel slippage. As it weighs less than most suspended bikes (heck less than most bikes period), it's also a switchback dream.
Your custom frame fit and one piece handlebar/stem, made to my dimensions, are unavailable elsewhere. The titanium fork and carbon rims keep the bike nimble yet indestructible. And one thing that makes this bike stand out in the field is esthetics. The curved top and down tubes are rarely if ever seen in fat tire titanium frames (with room for a top tube bike pack I might add). While there are a few titanium fat tire bikes out there -and I looked at them all - none compare.

Dave Levy at Ti Cycles is one of those builders who turns out bike after bike dialed to his customer’s needs.
Whenever I talk with him I can’t help but remark at his clarity of vision. He’s also got such a disciplined manner that conversations with him are remarkably to the point. Focus. What he’s doing isn’t art and yet he produces bikes that are utterly artful.
This steel fork is a great example of how he cut to the need and made this stunning double-plate steel fork and polished it to the brilliance of chrome. I never get enough time to talk to Levy, but I love it when I do.

.: “ Ultralight Review - This was built to my body and specifications; I wanted a very light, but very stiff frame with a 76 degree seatpost angle with 650c wheels. The chainstays are oversized and the frame is beefed up in strategic places to achieve the desired stiffness. It weighs about 2.8 lbs. The entire bike built up to 17 lbs with the Rolfs, ~16.8 lbs. with the Nimble's. It's very stiff; when you step on the pedals it just goes. It corners like a dream, and it fits me like a glove. The Ti Cycles frame shop is just a pleasure to work with. In my experience, they can tweak their custom designs to optimize for any design criteria you ask for. I crashed this bike recently, bike vs. car. I went to the hospital; took out the drivers' quarter panel, but the frame was bent by a few 100's of an inch. The Ti Cycles frame shop straightened it, and it's as good as new. I would recommend to anyone that they fly to Seattle and get a fitted for a custom bike from Ti Cycles - it's not cheap, but the prices are very competitive with Merlin and Litespeed.
