July Frame Building Seminar, Week days course, Steel material, July 17-21, 2023 (Mon - Fri)
Build your own steel bicycle frame under the direction of veteran frame builder Dave Levy. Work with the tools of a professional builder, seeing every aspect of the construction process while creating your own steel frame, this is a great introduction to the craft of bicycle frame construction for the enthusiast or a person interested in a career as a frame builder. Students are free to build any frame style as long as it will fit in our Bicycle Machinery Hydra fixture. Students will leave the seminar with a completed steel frame that is ready for paint.
Frame building seminar is structured into four 10-hour sessions split over two weekends, with approximately 40 hours of shop time with direct, personal contact with one of the most experienced frame builders in North America. This seminar is limited to 2 students to make sure you have plenty of personal attention while you build your frame.
Seminar will cover:
Introduction to materials
Tube mitering
Lug preparation
Drop out preparation, brazing and finishing
Lug brazing or TIG welding introduction
Frame and fork alignment
Braze on location, fixturing and installation
Finish work
Students will have the opportunity to build a steel fork depending on time. Fillet brazing is an option if student has basic skills and is flexible with their time since this will most likely take extra time to complete the frame and you may need to finish the frame after the seminar.
